Does the wireless Carplay work with two different phones?

The wireless carplay version only supports Apple carplay, no android auto, if you want to connect two iPhones, it is also all right, but they cannot work at the same time. When one phone is successfully connected, the other one cannot connect to this Carplay unit hub.

Why does one of the USB not work and what's the procedure to get the newest firmware?

The top usb port is the only one that will recognize your phone for carplay/android auto. The bottom port is for phone charging only. For firmware updates you will have to update the firmware OTA on your existing head unit first before you install the new usb unit.
